Speaker Biographies

Vance Serchuk
Vance Serchuk is the senior advisor for national security and foreign affairs to Senator Joseph Lieberman and a professional staffer on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Before his tenure with Senator Lieberman in 2007, Mr. Serchuk worked at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) first as a research associate in defense and security policy and then as a research fellow. His writings have appeared in the New York Times, The Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the Weekly Standard, and other publications. Mr. Serchuk is an intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his JD from Yale Law School, and was a Fulbright scholar in the Russian Federation.
 
Ed Stein
Ed Stein is a professional staff member at the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia. Prior to his move to Capitol Hill in 2011, Mr. Stein worked as a research associate on Middle Eastern studies at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). Prior to joining CFR, he was an analyst at the management consulting firm, Oliver Wyman. Mr. Stein earned a B.A. in History from Yale University.

Rachel Hoff
Rachel Hoff has served as the Foreign Policy Initiative’s director of external affairs since 2009. Before joining FPI, she worked on Capitol Hill as legislative assistant and research analyst for Congressman Mac Thornberry (TX-13). Prior to that, Ms. Hoff worked at the American Enterprise Institute, conducting research with several prominent foreign policy experts on issues in the Middle East, democracy promotion, anti-terrorism strategies, and weapons nonproliferation. During the 2008 election cycle, she worked at the National Republican Congressional Committee. Ms. Hoff holds a B.A. from Tufts University in Political Science and Philosophy.
