The Foreign Policy Initiative hosted today An On-the-Ground Update from Afghanistan, an on-the-record conference call with the National Endowment for Democracy's Hamid Arsalan who joined from Afghanistan.  In a moderated conversation with experts and reporters, Arsalan discussed Afghanistan’s landmark June 14th presidential runoff election between Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani, Afghanistan's security situation amid the persistent threat of the Taliban, Afghan views of President Obama's plan to withdraw all U.S. troops from the country by 2016, Afghan views of the growing crisis in Iraq, and other topics.
